How to Read Rural Addresses

Coles County E911 Addressing

Addresses begin in the South West Corner of the County
Addresses get larger going North and East
When the county set up new addresses, 1000 addresses were allowed per mile - 500 on each side of the road
Even house numbers are on the South and East sides of the roads
Odd house numbers are on the North and West sides of the roads

If you drop the last digit on a home number, you can think of the house number in hundredths.  For Example:

11545 E. County Road 200N
11545 is approximately 11.54 miles east of the western most county line.  Since the last digit of the house number is odd, this house is on the north side of the road.
E indicates this road runs East - West as opposed to North - South
200N - Indicates this road is 2 miles north of the southernmost county line
246 N County Road 1700E
246 - Approximately .24 miles North of the southernmost county line.  Since the last digit of the house number is even this house is on the east side of the road.
N - Indicates that his road runs North and South as opposed to East - West
1700E - Indicates this road is 17 miles east of the western most county line
