Usually, within 3 hours after the snow stops falling, the priority streets will be cleared. At that time, snow and ice removal begins on secondary streets, which include residential streets, cul-de-sacs, and City-owned parking lots.
To help make snow removal more cost efficient and safer, take a look at the following suggestions.
If you have any questions regarding a traffic signal that is already in place, contact the Charleston Street Department at (217) 345-5811. If it is after hours, leave a message, and your call will be returned during regular operating hours.
If you have noticed a streetlight that is out, dim or blinking, then please report it to the Public Works Department, Street Division at (217) 345-5811.
